While earning his MFA in Creative Writing and teaching at FIU, Michael gained five years’ experience as Communications Director for O, Miami, whose principal project is a month-long festival with close to 40 projects and events each April since 2011. Besides driving their social media platforms, drafting newsletters, press releases, and networking as a Communications Director, he was integral to producing O, Miami’s large-scale events. He goes the extra mile.
Michael is equipped with skills in Social Media Marketing, PPC Advertising, SEO, Campaign ROI Analysis, and Audience Generation. He contributed communications strategy with partners like Miami Book Fair, Arts & Business Council of Miami Beach, The Knight Foundation, The Betsy-South Beach, FIU, and PAMM. With WLRN Public Radio, he helped plan, coordinate and execute three distinct social media contests— #ThatsSoMiami, #ThisIsWhere, and #ZipOdes.
Working with O, Miami’s influential partners has helped Michael cultivate lasting professional relationships and has taught him to navigate large institutions, companies, and campaigns. He balances this work with his duties as an educator. Teaching grants him the ability to refine how he presents information to diverse audience and meet the unique needs of each person.
